DAILY GUIDANCE FROM ELOHIM DEVOTIONAL - Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025
Yom Revi’i (יוֹם רְבִיעִי), 6th of Tammuz, 5785 (Hebrew Calendar)
You heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,’ but I say to you, do not resist the wicked. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. Matthew 5:38-39 TS2009
Have you ever been persecuted, wronged, accused, or judged by someone, and the first thing you wanted to do was get revenge or retaliate to get even? When this happens, you need to stop and seek Elohim so that you do not act on your own behalf, but instead allow Elohim to handle the situation. As we read in Matthew 5:38, Elohim says, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” You must remember that this does not mean you should get even with the person yourself, but rather let Elohim handle the situation and apply due punishment on His own terms. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “Kill them with kindness.” This is what Elohim expects you to do when someone persecutes or wrongs you in any way. Matthew 5:39 tells us, “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” This verse clearly instructs us not to resist an evil person and not to retaliate. There are two ways of resisting: first, by warding off injury through offensive conduct—meaning harmful words or actions; and second, by retaliation—doing something to get even. The best interpreter of this passage is Paul, who inspires us to “overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21), rather than contend with evildoers. You must always remember to seek Elohim and give the situation to Him when you face those who wrong or persecute you. Getting even or trying to retaliate solves nothing. Letting Elohim handle those who persecute or wrong you is the most powerful and peaceful way to resolve any issue, because only Elohim can give you true peace in the midst of every situation.
LET'S PRAY: Elohim, our Sovereign Creator, I want to thank You for Your compassion upon Your children and for forgiving us of our sins. Yahweh, may I extend such love to those around me—especially those who have wronged me. May I find it in my heart to completely forgive them and forget everything they have done against me. You are the refuge of the oppressed, the protector of the persecuted, and the stronghold for those who face trials. When Your Son came into the world, He taught us a different way. He taught us to turn the other cheek. Yahweh, may I never take revenge. May I always remember that vengeance belongs to You. Forgive me for the times I nurtured thoughts of revenge within my heart. May I use good to overcome evil. May I use Your Word to overcome my troubles. May I always come to You in times of trouble, asking for deliverance—trusting that You will deliver me from every evil act and from those who seek to persecute me. Yahweh, I know that You will never allow me to be destroyed by those who rise against me. I know that every trial I face today, You will transform into a triumph. I believe that You will never make me a victim of trouble, but a victor through it. I know that You will fight my battles and command me to hold my peace. In the Set-Apart Name of Yeshua (יהושע) we pray, Amen.
